How these numbers are calculated
Fuel savings = (gas $/mile − EV $/mile) × annual miles, where gas $/mile is the local gas price divided by MPG and EV $/mile is your electricity rate divided by miles per kWh.
Payback period = (EV price − gas car price + charger installation) ÷ annual fuel savings. We pull the residential electricity rate for your ZIP code (curated utility tariffs or OpenEI URDB, falling back to state averages) and the latest EIA per-state gasoline price. Only apply incentives you are eligible for by lowering the EV price. Federal vehicle purchase credits ended for acquisitions after September 30, 2025.
